I got my hands on New Super Mario this afternoon. So far I'm amazed at all the stuff they've done with the formula, and I believe that this has to be the best Mario game since Super Mario Bros. 3. There's multiple paths to take through each map, and mucho exploration for the little round plumber to do. The only thing I had any beef with at first was the physics, which were a little more 'realistic' than previous 2D games, but you get used to them very quickly, and pay them no mind after the frist few levels.I love it so far. I highly recommend it to all who don't own it yet. Discuss.

I've heard good things about this game. Hoping I can get it soon after I get a job.

Anyone expecting any challenge from it should spend with caution; it's mind-numbingly easy. They made extra lives way too plentiful. It really hurts the otherwise fantastic level design.

My friend bought it, so I had an opportunity to play it, and I'm very impressed. To go strait to the point, the game is just awesome.

Wow. Didn't know that. I'm trying to beat every level and get all the Star Coins. Is the Luigi code what you get for doing that or is there something more? And does Luigi play differently or are they the same?

You get the code on the "The End" screen; it's cleverly tiled in the background. The only difference between the two is that one is taller, skinnier, and has worse voice clips than the other.

I think you should make that kind of decisions by yourself.

I like NSMB for what it is... but I think I still like Mario World a bit more. This one is indeed a TON of fun, and I like having to find the secret stuff/paths in particular levels... I dunno, maybe we'll see a second one at some point.

I played a demo of it ages ago, I enjoyed the 3 levels I was presented and found the controls to be pretty sleek too. It was a busy little area with TVs on full volume and stuff so I couldn't hear shit of the music... I'll probably get it when it's out here at the end of NEXT MONTH. >=/ Or I could import... But I can't be arsed. =P

It's delicious. Someone needs to rip the music from the game because the overworld theme is one of the best Mario overworld themes since the original SMB one.

I disagree, i don't care for it much.Edit - The overworld music, not the game. The game kicks arse. =P

Not to jump on the bandwagon here, but...
Where's the comparison between the beta and the final version?
You want a reason? This topic is in the X-Cult sub-section; the section designated for dissecting games to the point where most people would think you're crazy. "New Super Mario Bros. is a new, wonderful twist on an old favorite." Fine, good. Now tear it apart and start comparing! Need help? Hit up GameSpot and see if you can spot any differences between the prototype/early screenshots and the game you just finished playing. 'kay? 'kay.

I just got NSMB two days ago and I agree that it's pretty fun. I didn't really like the blue shell but I guess it just takes getting used to it. Also, while it's really easy to get lots of lives (I got 20 in the first world because of the mushroom house), the game isn't necessarily all that easy; I found that sometimes I would be running too fast, jumping around too much, and that I would have to try to jump back in an attempt not to skid off of a platform. Also, collecting the Star coins was usually frustrating because they were hidden in weird places, and I developed a habit of HAVING to get all three Star coins in a level before continuing.

I developed that habit too. I finally had to force myself to stop after World 6 so I could finish the rest of the game.
