I have been visiting here since about 2007ish, maybe 2009. There have been no new news in about 2 years, and I really enjoy this site. I haven't been following anything, I just come here to read some of the articles and etc. I would appreciate if someone told me what happened. Thanks.

In a nutshell? Sure, why not:

* Site was Sonic CulT, majority of userbase members were Sonic fans
* Site focus changed to a general gaming secrets umbrella, with far less of an emphasis on Sonic, to X-CulT
* Majority of userbase did not care for this, gradually drifted away
* Cue dead website

Ddin't Sonic-Cult closed at some point to come back later? I remember coming back after a year and seeing much less people. This was before the change to X-cult.

Back in the early 2000s this was kind of the bad-boy's hangout for the (then) younger, jaded, Sonic community. As time moved on, people grew up and left. Towards the end, people weren't really even interested in the new Sonic prototypes. They switch to general gaming around the time the community began disbanding.

If I had to pick a turning date, it would probably be when the new management took over. Not to discredit them, I think people just had enough Sonic-Cult by them.

Yeah, the forum closed down once.

I don't really like to blame the switch to X-CulT for the declining userbase - if I remember rightly, that decision was made due to the numbers dropping.

It is sad to see it happen and I would actually be interested to see if a return as Sonic-CulT would prompt a surge of nostalgia, in at least some of the fanbase.

That would be something. I miss this place.

Well, if we get everyone here to post more often it would be a start. Also we'd need to repurpose the site because The Cutting Room Floor Wiki made ours useless. One thing we did they didn't is that they don't accept anything that isn't verifiable in the rom (So no magazine scans or videos, which is quite lame) but Unseen 64 already pretty much does this

Sometimes I miss the old days, even after I remember the big scene wars. It's not a real scene unless it goes through a warring period ;)

Found a link to this place in a bookmark folder on an old hard drive. Amazed it's still here, and that my account still exists. Ah, the good ole days, when this place used to own.

I cannot believe my account has been preserved this long..It's crazy. I was around back when the SSRG was in it's prime, then went along through 2 or 3 trips with members going between the more popular community boards. Then I joined sonic cult. I was active for a couple years. Then I dropped out, headed to retro for a negligible amount of posts, popped in here from time to time...and now it's all but dead. I also only recently found out that, apparently,Tweaker was a gay pedophile. Insane. I read those chat logs in shock.

I started in the community when I was about 13...I'm now 22. Time flies. IT's most definitively a nostalgia trip seeing this place. I miss it in a way for sure.

I've been wondering why there hasn't been any posts in so long.

It is good to be back.

Speaking of which, who removed the 1999-2009 paragraph off the Sonic CulT site?

I admit, that documentary was pretty hilarious.

Anyway, we should probably bring this site to it's revival.

What would we revive it into? We stopped Sonic research because the newer Sonic games sucked dicks, (and there isn't much to research anymore) plus Retro is kind of doing that right now anyways. The general beta wiki was a good idea but we got beaten hard by The Cutting Room Floor Wiki.
