What's this a reference to?
Mostly an indirect reference to all the fake copies of Sonic Crackers and Star Fox 2 that plague eBay all the time. Most of the time, they're either actual copies, but 99.8% percent of it's a bunch of "repros" meant to trick common (and I mean grandmas and clueless parent common) eBay users to give them a false sense of pride and higher upness, along with setting them back a few thousand dollars. It's shameful, really. If this ever happened with Sega CD games, then they'd just be bigger scumbag money whoring idiots than they already are.
Let's just hope this never happens with Sonic CD prototypes. Ever.

To clarify some of the potential issues here, there was a (VERY EARLY) Sonic X-Treme proto leak - I believe drx released it. Forgot the details, but that one's been going around. I believe I can still nab it easily for reference.
(Also, yeah, Assemblergames talking about a Sonic Proto on March? AGAIN? Color me suspicious. Then again, I'll ask a buddy of mine about it.)
