I've always thought it would be nice to make a log of which games I complete each year, as kind of a way to keep track. What excited me more was the idea that multiple X-CulT members could take part and we'll see how many games we complete this year as a forum.

If you're going to take part, you have to go all the way, unless it is absolutely impossible for you to post. If you die half-way through the year and can't complete any more games (or post about it!) then nobody's going to take a huge shit on your rep. So don't worry too much about it - what I mean is, I want people to take a genuine interest in doing this. If you record one completed game, you have to record every game you complete.

The rules are simple:
  • You are allowed to post a duplicate game. If a single game is completed by multiple posters, a bracketed number will be displayed next to the game in question to denote how many have completed it.
  • Obviously, with open-ended genres and achievements abound, it's hard to tell where a game 'ends'. By 'completed', I mean that you have watched the ending cinematic (if there is one) and have seen the ending credits. I'd like to think a bit of common sense applies here. Some games obviously can't be completed. World of Warcraft being one example. A game like Guild Wars, while still an MMO, can be 'completed'. It has a final mission and an ending sequence, so it counts.
  • You do not have to state which difficulty you complete a game on, but you may if you wish. Bear in mind, difficulty information will not make it's way to the overall listing. If you'd like to record difficulty settings, you may do so for personal pride. If you go back to a game and complete it on a higher difficulty setting, feel free to go back and edit your post to reflect this.
  • I will not be offering any form of incentive or reward to those who enter or have completed the most games by the end of the year. For one, it's hard to prove that you actually completed a game while still keeping the fun nature of the activity in mind. It makes it too competitive. I'd like to think I can trust most people on CulT, but as CulT Wars showed us, there are a few who aren't exactly known for their strict adherence to guidelines! Besides, this isn't a competition. It's supposed to be a nice, fun, collaborative community activity to partake in!
  • Finally, only games which you complete for the FIRST TIME are to be posted. You can't rerun a game and then post about it here. That defeats the purpose of the activity. But then, why would you want to? Allow me to reiterate, this is not a competition. Do not treat it as such.

Completed: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS) - January 2, 2010.

BTW, do enhanced remakes/ports of games you've already played count? I'm currently spending most of my time playing Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Hmmm... I'd hesitate to say "yes". I'm not sure a new control method is a drastic enough change to merit that - let's say once you complete all three games on the collection, you can just post it as 'Metroid Prime Trilogy'?

EDIT: Also, added Spirit Tracks to the list.
And what the hell, let's just say the Prime trilogy counts if you're replaying them on the Wii.

I take it you didn't complete it on the SNES originally then? If so, then I'm afraid it's a moot point as it has received no changes in transition. That said, if this happens I'll be posting the original platform the game was released on, ie for Virtual Console/XBLA/PSN releases.

Great idea, but I'm playing Persona 3: FES right now, which is going to take a while. I'm doing the same thing on my backloggery. Any of you guys have one?

Actually, I've never completed it before now. We were at a friend's house, he had it on VC, so we played through in one day.

My poor legit cart sits gathering dusts. :(

Personally I thought it was alright. Reminds me of Eternal Sonata in some ways (methinks it's the soundtrack by Motoi Sakuraba) I heard ToS was better, but unfortunately, I never played Tales of Symphonia. I feel bad for the Wii owners who had to deal with it's kiddied pseudo-sequel.

As for Persona 3 FES, I have that game, but I'm too lazy to play it.

Also:

Feeding Frenzy (Xbox Live Arcade) - Completed Jan 5, 2010
