Ok, so here's the dealy. I was a huge fan of Carmageddon in it's day. (Then a fan of Carmageddon II, but never a fan of TDR2000, like everyone else) Anyways, here's a project I've been working on:Back when Carmageddon was released, they released an "add on" called Splat Pack. What it was -supposed- to do was add 20 new tracks and 20 new cars to carmageddon. What it actually did was nothing of the sort. It -never- added anything to carmageddon. All it did was play stand alone, like a separate version of Carmageddon. Basically, imagine you bought sonic 3. Now sonic & knuckles comes out, and it claims that it'll add new characters and new levels to sonic 3. But instead you get it and it's ONLY the new characters, ONLY the new levels, but you STILL need to buy sonic 3 to make it work. It was one of the shittiest moves SCI ever made. And they've fucked up a lot.Anywho, I've spent some time hacking and working, and I've managed to combine the "add on" to the original carmageddon. So now ALL cars and tracks are available in one working game! =)Not only that, but Carmageddon had a lost treasure in it, much like most games we dig through. This would be the lost hoverjet. The model and bits and pieces were still in there. So I found someone online who had managed to fill in the pieces and make it work. So I added it! Plus I added the -only- official addon car that Stainless (people who actually coded and created Carmageddon) had made for the game, which is Hong Kong Phooey in his Little gay ninja green car. It's pretty gay, but it's official.I'm kinda caught on a line here. Before I release this hack, I'm not sure if I want to add player made cars. I can't see any reason NOT to, other then they aren't official materials. I wanted to build a kinda "uber carmageddon," but I dunno if I should stop here. Thoughts?

I remember doing something like that too back in the day. I remember downloading the demo for 2 for the PC, and putting the car models into Mac version. I remember trying to drive the 18 wheeler truck in a mining level, and it's exhaust pipes got stuck in the low-hanging roof. So it's collision model and everything worked fine. I think I even tried moving a level or two over, don't really remember how well that worked.

Holy jesus, I forgot about Carmageddon. I first played it on a MacAddict demo disc, then a buddy of mine got it for his... wait for it... fucking IBM Aptiva running Windows 95 Plus of all things :P We played the SHIT out of that game.. that, Sim City 2000, and Scorched Earth were a couple years of our lives when not attached to his Saturn or PSX.user-made vehicles would be a cool idea, but rather than include them directly, why not just make the game search for vehicle code in directory Whatever, and make content available if there happens to be anything in there?

I personally think a "cleaner" version with just the official stuff would be nice either way, like a Director's cut or something.

Better yet - 2 releases. If you're doing an official-only version, that one would never have any reason to be further updated, right? Get that one done and uploaded. Then the other version can be tinkered away at to your heart's content.

There was plenty of examples of 'add on' discs during the 90's which worked as you described. GTA: London and Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions were a few to name. It's basically; "You bought the game, now here's a slightly marked down and slightly changed version of the game. But to ensure we get maximum profit, you need to prove you bought the original game."Then again, it was the foundation of patches and DLC in times where the internet was a mostly undiscovered country by the masses. So for most, this was an ideal form of distribution for extra content. Thank god things have changed now.

This would be amazing if you released this. I have the game, but sadly I can't get it to work on Vista. I've also never gotten to see it with the 3dfx graphical upgrade which I guess can be done now with some glide wrappers if I remember correctly. So release this, and have it work on Vista, and you will be my hero.

Warning: Windows version fails to work on Vista.Fails with DX errors.-----I'm wondering if I should go through the effort of installing a VM, and then installing Win98, in order to try to crack that thing.Too much work =/

Is that Collin Farrel or whatever in your signature? I think I love you (for taking him down a peg (besides his amazing accent cover-up skills)).
