So my bro has a broken Xbox 360, has done for the last 3 months or so. He's in some money issues at the moment and offers me his Xbox 360, HDD, 2 controllers and 15 games for just £60 ($120). Only thing is, it has this stupid ring of light business. Now i KNOW there's a fix for this stuff, but obviously soldering and towel hugging the xbox is out of the question.Anyone care to help? :D

Why is the Towel Hug trick out of the question? That would be your best bet.

My House has a record for fires, and towel hugging encourages it as well as from what i've heard, only temperaly fixes it.I'm trying to find the full guide video from 3redlightfix.com for free, fuck $40 for a video.

Well, there aren't many actual permanent fixes outside of soldering.Any trick outside of that I think it just a scam, since there is no way to actually fix the system without, well, fixing it. Every fix outside of soldering is temporary at best. If you are worried about the towel catching on fire, then why not do it outside? Do you not have any extension cords? Why not just WATCH the system and make sure it doesn't burst out with smoke? The whole issues with the RLoD is that a few wires become loose due to some cheap glue. As I said before, there would be no way to actually fix that without going in and fixing it. Every other fix will have you heating the wires in some way, whether it be a blow dryer, or a towel, in order to fix the problem. On a side note, when I rented a 360 from Rent-a-centre(my system was out for repairs) it also had the RLoD. I found padding it with a towel and hitting it on its side with an open palm caused it to work.

I don't have a clue what i've done, but managed to get from 3 rings of light, to just 1, which i've looked up upon an E74 Error and aparently some part of the graphics system inside is snapped off and does need soldering. Great! Not only that, but i can't get into the fucking case. It's like, near impossible with so many bloody clips done so tightly. It's the back clips which give me so much grief.I may see if a local store would fix it, i have like £50 vouchers there.

mine broke down the other week, but im getting it replaced next week. i don't even have to send it off, just take it to the centre and they swap it for you (at least out here). just give microsoft a call, there's a 3 year warranty on RRoD. the only issue there is you'll need all your bro's account details, so if he's willing to help...

If you send it out, when you wait for your box just try the towel trick. I did it for 5 months before i got my elite. Now my girlfriend has my RRoD one and she still towels it and it works for awhile

My brother just got a RRoD last night. He called Microsoft and they're doing the "we'll send you a box in a box to send to us" thing.

Sending it off to microsoft isn't an option for me personally, as my bro got the xbox from some second hand shop for christmas. Regardless, i've snapped the "MICROSOFT VOID IF REMOVED" sticker so there goes the warrant, even if i can't get into the fucking thing. It's done so god damn tightly.

Yea, you screwed yourself there. Why not bring it in, trade it in, and just hope they don't "Let's test this system out.".Gamestop, at least where I live, lets you trade in defect games and consoles. You just get about... a 1/4th less store credit.

I hear you can buy those warranty stickers at some Computer Fairs. If you don't mind a day trip then try and get down to Bowlers in Manchester, usually lots of wheeler dealers down there who might know where to get some. I can't guarantee anything but I heard rumour that it's the place to go.

Well, if you go buy a Arcade system (£160), for that £60 you've spent you've got an extra controller, a HDD and shit load of games on the cheap. So there's some positive out of this. Or, if you wanted to be sneaky, go to GAME or CEX, cash in some of the games you don't want for money towards a brand new unit. Although, I'd love to see the face on the GAME employee who takes 360 games to go toward a new 360 console... =PAnd, if in the future you get the 360 un-RRoD'd, you have a console to dick around with mod chips and another to use legit on XBL or whatever.

Exactly what i've done SSUK. I went and won a PS3, sold it for £170 (I know, poor), got my self an Xbox Arcade, The Orange Box, Messenger pack and 12 months Live Gold membership. Pretty good considering i won the ps3 for just £1 being played into those "Stacker" mahcines with a 1 in 800 chance of winning better than MINOR prize.Still have this dud piece of crap though, and shops won't take it as the warranty sticker's gone. Tempted to just go schizo all on it, but i dunno.

=(Nevertheless, I only got it for a quid. And PS3's suck in my opinion (I don't need any facts to prove me wrong, I don't, and won't take your opinion as mine), No good / interesting games, waaaay expensive, and absolutely HUUUUUGE.It was either sell, use, or abuse. And Using wasn't an option.
