I just got home from a long day at E3, I played quite a few games and got to meet a lot of interesting people. Now comes the time to share the wealth. Watch this space for videos of the gameplay of both Silver and Sone (I'm uploading them as we speak).First off, fellow NiGHTS fans,I asked multiple SoA floor leaders if ANYTHING regarding NiGHTS was announced, they said they heard nothing, but would like to hear something too. Tomorrow's another day, I'll be there again all day, so we'll seeRegarding Sonic nextgen, I played both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions today, both are very good graphically, however the PS3 leaves much to be desired. The game crashed upon loading the level, that's fine, reset the PS3 devkit. Apparently I wasn't the only one with that problem. When I actually get to playing, I'm plauged by slow loading times and slower speeds compared to the Xbox 360 version, which of course stayed true to the true blue speed of Sonic we've known to love him for. There were two playable characters, Sonic and the new guy, whom the game addressed to him as "Silver the Hedgehog." His gameplay is MUCH different than Sonic's. He is not fast, in fact he runs as fast as you and I would run. That's fine, not all hedgehogs are lightning fast. He does NOT have the standard attack set (Jumping, homing attack, spindash), instead, Silver has psychokinetic powers. Using the R trigger, while standing still, he can lift large objects using his mind, and then throw them at enemies. He can also deflect bullets, sending them in the direction from whence it came. Using a double jump causes Silver to glide into the air. Silver's levels are designed for his powers, as many parts require you to use your psychic abilities to create levitating objects to get around obstacles. Shadow was not on the list of playable characters.StH suffers from the problems we've seen in every 3D Sonic game, most noticabely the camera, I've counted multiple times where the camera has failed me and left me falling to my death. Homing attack, while given better range, can still lead to frustrating deaths. Lightspeed dash, however, seems to not apply to ALL lines of rings, but only rings specifically programed for light dash, which is a blessing to me.So far I give this game a B+. I did not enjoy playing as Silver, but maybe we can get used to his unique style of gameplay. As for Sonic Rivals, a Sega rep confirmed to me that the lineup will be, Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, and SILVER. I did not play this game, rather a Sega rep played it while I filmed it. For what it is, it is a decent game, with linear gameplay; go from point A to point B before any of the other players. All and all I'd say save your money for Sonic Next, and get it for Xbox360, because chances are the PS3 demo was a port of the Xbox 360 version. The 360 was fast, smooth, and didn't fucking crash. As for Rivals, I can't say anything good nor bad about it from the shiort demo, but I say go for it if you already have a PSP.
