The fan inside my PC has stopped spinning, so my PC keeps over heating and turning off. Which sucks. It's a good thing my new PC comes tuesday. Should i try open it up and fix it myself or take it to the 'tards at PC World?

Well try to fix it if you know what your doing, but your new pc is coming soon right? So I guess if you dont want to risk anything, bring it to the tards at pc world ^_^

I just remembered -I've seen your PC when you posted a pic in the last "Post your real desktop" thread, and it doesn't look very old - and a fan's already broken. BTW which fan's broken? Is it in the power supply, on the CPU, or bolted / screwed to the case? The first one would take quite a while to replace, but the second two wouldn't be too hard to replace - even easier if they're not connected to the motherboard as then you haven't got to put your hands anywhere near it (and possibly zap the board with a load of static electricity - a rare possibility, but then, so's the possibility of a fan breaking in a PC as young as yours, ohwait it's happened =P)Or just take it in PC World - as I recall that's what you did after the speakers broke =P

Taking it to PC world is like stopping and asking for directions - you look like a tosser. =)

Naah, 'course you weren't *runs*You got one thing wrong though Infiniti, you have to be really smart to set a VCR clock ;-)

Well, it's like 4 years old or something that's hardly "already".

So i went with my mother up to PC World with my computer and told the guy of the problem. I told him how we brought it up to PC World a weak ago after we heard it making weird noises so they could fix it. When it came back, it was still making weird noises. So PC World did fuck all the last time i brought it up there. I then told him the noises have now stopped completely and that the noise was coming from a fan. He told me "Yeah it's stopped making the noise because when you brought it into us last time we cleaned it all out so now the fan isn't making noises anymore, and the reason the PC kept shutting down was probably due to spyware.I knew that was bullshit, because the fan was supposed to make some sort of noise anyway. So i told him that. He opened up my PC in front of me and what do i see? Shit loads of fucking dust and dirt. "Didn't you just say that you cleaned the PC out a minute ago?" he didn't respond to that. When he looked at the fan, a blade of the fan was missing where it somehow broke off. After he cleaned out all the dust and scanned for spyware and found about 700 spyware. I know i couldnt of gotten that much in the couple of days i had the PC back, that amount of spyware has obviously built up over time, which admitedly i should of taken care of myself. So i thought to myself "So what the fuck did they even do to it last week?" PC World blow. Atleast they fixed it this time.

When he looked at the fan, a blade of the fan was missing where it somehow broke off and my mom got scared, and said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air." I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said "Fresh" and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought "Nah, forget it, Yo homes, to Bel-Air!" I pulled up to the house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby, "Yo homes, smell ya later!" I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.

Nothing to do with me. Remember that this is a shared computer with 3 other members of my family.

4 years old? Blarg - I have to say, for someone who's interested in flat, off-white boxes, that PC didn't look that old to me :o But shit... a fan blade broke off? Ouch... I've seen some pretty old PCs in my time - the W*ng 286 I repaired a while ago (probably built in about 1987 - IIRC it has a big hand-written QA label inside) had a colossal amount of dust on the PCBs and in the floppy drive, but as far as I know the fan in the PSU was still working perfectly. Which means one of three things; a huge blot of dust, a not-very-good fan, or both. Who nose... (Oi, that's my line! - Cyan)
