Look, I fucking suck at Mega Man games and while looking for games which I could actually complete in the series (so far.... None) I stumbled across the fact that there are a few Mega Man prototypes out there. I found a few videos about Mega Man 7's prototype http://www.youtube.com/results.php?search_...ga+man+7+sample these have several, very significant differences between them.

I was going to play through them and then document their changes. However, it's more trouble than it's worth to me. So... Anyone want to write some of this up/steal someone else's differences/give me game genie codes for Mega Man games so I can go half a stage without PEW-PEW-PEW-pew-pew-ing?

Also, a link to the Mega Man 7 sample ROM would be greatly apprechiated.

And finally, while we're on the subject of Mega Man 7, the 8-bit remake of the game is amazing... Even if I can't play the damn thing. http://www7.atwiki.jp/wakuwakusuru/pages/13.html

Title

First off there is no intro that explains what happened in Rockman 6 and how Wily had robots programmed to find him when he had not contacted them for 6 months.

The titlescreen is very basic at this point, it has the Rockman 7 logo with the word sample off to the bottom right. The logo is also brighter than in the final. The logo is missing the "Shukumei no Taiketsu!", or "Destined Showdown!" for people like me that don't know jap, that appears under Rockman in the final. The ® is also missing from the logo. It says press start below the logo, which you have to do twice for some reason. There is no password screen or mono/stereo selection.

Weapons
In the Beta you start with your normal buster, R. Coil, and S. Adapter. In the final the S. Adapter is something you must find later in the game. For some reason the R. Coil was moved to the bottom of the Rush adapter lists in the prototype.

For some reason in the prototype when you first select the S. Adapter all it does is change your pallete until you press y once, then you can actually use the power arm and the jet boost. Your sprite will also be the correct one too.

Intro Level

Various changes are easily present in this prototype. First off there is no intro scene with Auto taking Rockman and Roll to try and stop Wily. You just teleport in and go. The final's intro music is not in, instead Trubo Man's stage music is played. What's weird though is you teleport in where you first see Auto's vehichle, but if you look at the background it's been shifted upwards and there is a red car in the background that is removed in the final. In the final Blue checkered wall by the building is made taller and there is more debris added along the wall.

In the beta you have to walk a ways with chunks of the road falling and rising constantly to get to where Dr. Light, Rush, and Wily's escape normally occurs. However after you get to this section you see 4 robots go into the building and you see Wily's ship go up. He never comes down to see you and you just continue on with the level.

between wily and SR

Steamroller boss is the same as in the final as far as I can tell.

after SR

Now you reach the battle with Forte. For some reason Forte has a lot more sprites in the prototype, also his shots were thinner. In the prototype Forte jumps a lot less, it seems he only jumps when you fire at him, especially weak shots.
The text boxes in the prototype are black boxes that spin in when a different character talks. In the final they were changed to white text bubbles.

i would suggest the mega man x series (4-6) for completetability. i loaded those 3 up on my PSP and they were good, relative annoyance-free, fun. but this is slightly OT
