In my experience, and disregarding IceKnight's obscure thread about the Genesis sound output, the Genesis model 1 seems to have clearer music capabilities than the model 2... I frankly don't really give a shit as to WHY, but it's the reason for the project I want to do.
I know it's already been done before, but for a long time I've wanted to hard wire a 32x and Genesis together into one console so that I never again have to worry about tower-jiggle, the loose white cables, and other assorted BULLSHIT that most of us here should know and love.... you know, for the rare occasion I want to play a game on the actual hardware rather than just emulating it.
I'm sure I can finagle the physical positioning of all the circuit boards inside and shit, that wouldn't be an issue; nor would all the wiring and soldering.
What I'd like to know is
1) if it's physically, and realistically, possible to get s-video output from the 32x. I've done a little searching around and it seems like the only main video signals the hardware is directly capable of are composite and that weird-ass scart shit. has anyone here attempted this before?
2) if the 32x is region-free in and of itself, and it relies on whatever region signal the Genesis gives it to determine game locale. I did the region modification to my Nomad and multiple saturns, so I'm sure it's easy enough to do it to a regular Genesis, but I'd like to know in advance if I'd need to do anything to the 32x
3) if I have to do anything wacky when I connect it to a Sega CD. now, my model 2 Genesis will send an audio signal through the extention port and out Sega CD's RCA output jacks... does the Model 1 not do that, since there's that patch cable bullshit? I've never used a model 1 with a sega CD before.
Also, just a passing thought, Local H or Sanik or someone modified roms of Sonic 1 and 2 at one point to make the entire game play in the interlaced mode, and the picture came out a lot clearer... have they done this with any of the other sonic games? Have they figured out the video-mode triggers in general so they could maybe make a patching program to process ANY rom?
Come on, there have got to be SOME hardware gurus still kicking around here on the forums...
