Pretty old. In fact, there's a page about it on the main page, I think. You're slipping. =P

Since this is somewhat new to me -- proving I don't pay enough attention to the main Cult page as well -- I decided to download it and give it a quick run-through, without any sort of screen capturing capability.
First and foremost, I wouldn't even call this a prototype as much as it's a preview disc, as it states rather boldly when it boots up. "This ROM is for media preview only," etc etc. The actual in-game title screen isn't "Alpha+" one shown on the Cult page -- the title just says "Original Game © SEGA, © Sonic Team, 2001." The game allows you to play 2 stages as Sonic (City Escape/Green Forest), 1 stage as Shadow (Radical Highway), I'm presuming one stage as Dr. Eggman (Fuck if I go through Sand Ocean again), ditto for Tails (Fuck you, Prison Escape shit), one stage as Rouge (Lagoon shit), and I don't know how many stages as Knuckles because the game, mercifully, locked up before I had to play Wild Canyon. Stages appear to be the same, aside from City Escape's music having no words and Sand Ocean with the already-documented-on-Cult music change.

The amusing thing in this is that all the vocal cues are completely and totally wrong on what few cutscenes you see in the game. For example, when Shadow is emoing it up before "blasting through the enemy army" or whatever it is he does in his stage, the subtitles are accurate to the final game... but the dialogue we get is "Sayonara... Shadow the Hedge Hog," making him either look effete or schizophrenic or both at the same time. Another slightly funny one is Knuckles and Rouge having a bilingual nonsense argument, with Rouge mouthing off in irritated Japanese, followed by Knuckles' response of "Look who's calling who a thief," with the subtitles going on about something completely other than the subject at hand.

I had somewhere to go with this, but it's 3:16 AM and two computers have died on me in one day, so I'm just going to leave it at "This is probably something that will be interesting after people have gutted it with model viewers and the like, but to the average pirate, you might be a lil' pissed." Oh well. Live and learn, as it were. (I ought to die for that.)

It's old. The cutscene audio is fucked due to ripping error. Nice to see it resurface though.
