stuff about the old Pokemon games (Red, Blue and Yellow), also interesting shit about Gold and Silver

link here

probably not right for Cult, but I thought this might've been relevant due to it not being documented here. the screenshots there are pretty shitty too, I'll get some better ones on an emulator later.

I love the "OMG, I cam out of the name rater house, maybe he has something to do with missigno, CONSPIRACY"

Anyways, this is the first time I've heard about the G/S Safari Zone and the 20 others beta maps.
The link to the other site is broken, so he's a link:
http://magicstone.de/dzd/?page=10
There's some beta info about Digimon Adventure 02 - D-1 Tamers and Battle Network Rockman EXE but the gold/silver article are missing pictures.

I found some gold/silver beta infos here:
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok...and_Silver_Beta
There's some really nice links in the "References" section

You can see the beta maps here without registering:
http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=105571
Beta music:
http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=106377
The links for the beta music are dead, I'll register and ask them later.

yeah the site I linked to is full of 12 year old pokefags who think missingno is a real thing LMFAO

but this whole Glitch City thing seems real interesting actually; I'm no ROM expert or whatever, but would anyone have any idea why some places seem unaffected yet others go completely freaked? is it something to do with how certain data is stored, like how missingno is essentially leftover Pokemon data?
biggestsonicfan
You know what was more fun than glitch city? There was this device called the Mega Memory Card. It basicly allowed you to save states and load them durring the game, was goddamn useful for getting the cards you wanted in the Pokemon TCG game. But if you loaded up a Pokemon Red save into Pokemon Blue, or vica versa, things got quite trippy and awesome.

Also, if someone could please figure out why a battle with Professor Oak was removed from the game, that'd be awesome.

Oh yeah, TRSRockin. I used to moderate their forums. PROTIP: Do not moderate a Pokemon message board. No matter how serious or technical in nature the main site, the forums will fill up with retarded kids who love to have roleplay in which Darkus Emonus and his beloved Shadownix the Pikaritapuffachu team up with Lugia and Celebi to take down the evil forces of TEAM RAINBOW.

On topic, I used to be really into the Pokemon glitch scene (if it can even be called a "scene"). I submitted some information to that site a few years ago. In fact, the third submission down on the page linked to is mine. It's pretty lol, and includes brilliant lines like "This might be possible in other glitch cities, too, but I was so freaked out the first time it happened, I didn't want to do it again."

But if any of you do want to add some Pokemon information to X-Cult, you would want to start with TRSRockin and glitchcity.info. They're the best sources of information on Pokemon glitches that I know of, although TRS is pretty nontechnical and hasn't been updated in ages due to the author's cosplay obsession.

While I'm posting about this, I might as well add that I uploaded a ZIP to zshare with some of my screenshots, savestates, and other miscellanea from when I was experimenting with glitches. Here's the link: http://www.zshare.net/download/12612885480ae88d/ The screenshots in particular might come in handy to anyone putting together a section on Pokemon glitches.

What types of things would happen if you switched versions with the same save? Wouldn't the only difference be monster capture rates? Or was the fact that Blue was actually made later mean the data is in different places?

I think its notable that the game saves when you encounter Missingno. Presumably it's outputting debug data to the same place the Hall of Fame data is saved. Speaking of this glitch, it has the Bird type, which doesn't exist in the final game, replaced with Flying.

And need we bring up the truck? It's a bit odd to dedicate two tiles to something most players would never see.

Btw, here's some faqs:

The mew glitch. I don't think there's some explanation on why it happens but there's some nice details on the glitch.

Some details about the missingno glitches and other glitches.

The nicest part of this faqs is the table of the characters that shows which glitch encounter you'll get depeding on your character's name.

I think he would've appeared in place of one of the Elite Four/Gary, or around that time in the game. the Pokemon he uses and the stats of them are of that level in the game.

I had a theory that there was originally going to be more vehicles in Pokemon, such as the surfboard that was deleted and that truck being there, but was dropped in favour of Pokemon being able to take you places with Surf and Fly. of course, the surfboard could just be a Surf HM test, but I like my idea kthnx

These weren't saves, they were basically dumps of memory loaded into a different yet similar game. It yielded very interesting results.

I suppose, however, he crashes all the versions of Pokemon I've ever tested whenever he sends out the garbage data pokemon, or whatever.

I remember reading/seeing pictures of the Girl Lass character as a playable in the original R/G/B/Y. IIRC her player sprite was found, anyone have any info/pictures on this?
Cryomancer
The Lass basically evolved into the character Blue (also known as Green depending on region), who in turn became the character leaf (the playable girl in leafgreen).

She's in the pokemon special manga as a main character, leaf she's playable, and then supposedly that girl pikachu runs under the skirt of in the anime into is her.

Here is old artwork related to the subject:

i'm not sure on the date of the image of her with a pacman ghost, but some of the stuff it's with is VERY old (pre-pokemon, back when game freak was a fanzine):

of course I have nothing to back it up data wise (ie no overworld sprite or something, i'd love to know it there indeed is), but it at least had crossed their minds back then.

here she is from the manga for the record:

and the lass artwork from the time:

the skirt girl in the intro:

assuming that the first image in my post came before the anime intro, i would be willing to bet that blue and lass are indeed seperate ideas that existed at the same time, but of course without real dates to these images that's hard to say, and even with dates would only be speculation. looks to me like the skirt girl is a lass recolor, but I'm not sure that means she is somehow the same character as Blue.

What did APE Inc. have to do with that manga to get their logo there?
K2J
Ape's the former name of Creatures Inc., owner of one-third the Pokemon franchise along with Nintendo and Game Freak. They're mainly responsible for the non-game things, such as cards and toys. So, yes, the same people who made that ultra rare holographic Mewtwo card made Mother.

@BSF; I still don't know why exchanging savestates would mess that up, but I'll try it myself sometime.

I know that, im not dumb. But I remember quite awhile ago seeing somewhere (the cult probly, I don't visit pokemon sites) screens someone posted showing Lass/Blue as a possible playable in the original R/G/B/Y. I believe it was just her large back facing sprite was found lost in the original R/G/B/Y and not any code for it.
Galaxia
there's some more information about lost stuff in R/B/Y here. mentions the girl appearing in game here too.

I'm not saying you're dumb, I just felt like posting all those images 8P

Also, the image with APE on it is game artwork, not a manga, far as I know. it's used even in some American publications, strategy guides and stuff.
