Sonic Wise: Green Hill Zone, Emerald Hill and Scrap Brain are the original tunes, no more epic remixes by Jun sadly.

Game Wise: Roy, Toon Zelda, Toon Shiek, Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, and Dixie Kong were going to be in the game but were removed early on. As evidenced by the ingame file having them listed but lacking planned Final Smashes or Kirby Absorption models.

Would that be Roy from Fire Emblem, or Roy Koopa? Oh who am I kidding, it's never the Koopa Kids anymore.
Overlord
Dr Mario, Mewtwo and Roy could be hangovers from SSBM, if they built off that codebase...
Toot Toot Sonic Warrior
If that were the case, Pichu probably would've been on the list as well.

And Roys data would have been named EMBLEM ;)

Someone on Brawl Central seems to have a list of all the filenames for the music files before some of them were cut from actually being in the game. He claims it comes from FFshrine, but the link is a 404 for me.

Full list.

What's that I see? UCANDO? As in, You Can Do Anything? Hmm...

Also of note is that every character would have an individual victory music; it also lists tunes for Roy and Mewtwo... which, of course, we already knew were tentative characters.

For clarification "You Can Do Anything" is also known as "Cosmic Eternity" and is the outro to Sonic CD (J/E). [/for the fucking oblivious] What's the "RIGHTTHERE" song? I get the feeling it could be a Sonic Rush song, but I really can't think of a Sonic song with "Right there" as a prominent lyric...

This is all great stuff. If any audio data of these tracks are left, could anyone convert them to MP3? I'll start compiling this information in the next few days to throw up onto X-CulT.
Overlord
Well, that sucks =(

Also, is there really an Electroplankton stage in the final game?

I am pretty sure there's not - I just checked my brstm (Wii Audio Stream) files.. and no U05 is there.. so You can do anything is not on it - maybe they had to scrap it thanks to the same license issus which forced them to scrap it for the US Gems collection. Still.. the songs are stored in original form, nothing with actual looping and so on.. several numbers are missing - the list below unfortunately doesn't give any information about the actual filename (like snd_bgm_U05_UCANDO linked to U05.brstm - which doesn't exist :( ).

the hell you say.

"Sonic - You can do anything" is the OP, "Cosmic Eternity - Believe in yourself" is the ED.

I find it hard to believe there would be that kind of licensing issues for a Japanese release like this one. Wasn't that song included in the Japanese Gems collection, anyway?
Link
Indeed it was included.. but I heard they initially wanted to have it in the US and EU Gems Collections too but they scrapped it.. for Brawl.. surely the Japanese version could also have it but who knows maybe Nintendo wants the US version not to differ to the Jap version besides language!
Overlord
Somehow I doubt it, Nintendo aren;t known for doing that much localising

Simple is the jpn name for Classic mode. So.. intro music for Classic I guess.
And seeing how "ENDING" is immediatly after SIMPLEINTRO and SIMPLERESULT, maybe a Classic mode ending music? or not.

Apparently, even some Nintendo characters could not be included because of "rights issues" -- we're not sure which characters he may be referring to.

Mmm, I wonder if he's talking about Dixie, which they would probably wanted to include the Rare logo on her hat. But other than that, I don't see how they would have right issues with other characters?

And also:

Well, we knew he was somewhat last minute anyway. Look how small a role he has in Subspace Emissary.

So I just happened to be browsing /v/ and found this.

It converts the .bin snapshots you put on your SD card into .jpg. Put the screens you want to convert in the same folder as that MS-DOS Batch file and run the program.

Unfortunately, most of us don't have a use for it yet, but even so. Download this thing before it expires!

Also, why is all the text suddenly being centered?

He may have a small part in it, but his role is still kind of big. He "saves the day" or some shit at the end to beat Taboo. That's his name, right?
Link
Unfortunately the fact that Sonic appears at that place is kinda ridiculous.. where did he come from.. you know that for practically all characters.. now he appears and kicks him in the butt.. sorry to say that but his appeareance really makes NO SENSE at all.

The same guy who put up hundreds of videos from some Japanese site onto Youtube seems to have the lost tracks. Er... does anyone know where he got them?

Crap, didn't understand description carefully enough; these are just music matched to names. Damnit, I thought we had something.

That shit was awesome. You totally don't expect Kirby to come out on Dragoon and do that shit. Kinda sad it's the only time we see Samus's ship though.

If only Sonic was shown in the Adventure mode a little earlier. Then we could have seen him on the Tornado or something. But Kirby on the Dragoon is pretty sick. Odd how Sakurai seems to love to put in Kirby Air ride references, it wasn't that great of a game.

Buh? I must be blind, I never saw more than just the Dragoon. Though I never played Air Ride. >>
I think a more general placement for that would be Kirby references period. If I'm not imagining things, theres more Kirby propaganda than any other. I think the only other character that has almost as many references is Mario, and thats a given.

And totally off topic(And prolly known, but I had to get this nag off of my chest), but I recall seeing some bitching somewhere about the Wii remote not having a battery level indicator. I just noticed like, twenty minutes ago, that when you turn on the controller, the four lights flash on the bottom. I got confused when I saw only two of them blinking, and then happened to check the battery power, and come to find out, I had two bars left. So, everytime you turn on the remote, the number of lights flashing indicates the level of battery you have left. Four lights for full, three for three quarters, two for half, and one light for a quarter juice left. I found it interesting. Theres your battery level, bitches!

And back onto topic.

A quick question. Is any playable code or models of the scrapped characters left on the disk, or is the entire thing about Brawl being built off of Melee true, and they being mentioned just leftovers from Melee's character data?

And are there any scrapped items or stages that have been found, either? That'd be interesting, seeing what kind of stages were booted from the game. =3
khorney
well, it's hardy surprising about the kirby references, as hal laboratories are the guys who make kirby...

There are characters that were originally in Melee that are referred to in Brawl's code as far as I know, but it's not known if the entire game was built off of Melee. There's also a few characters in the code that never made it into the final, such as Dixie Kong and Toon Zelda. Assumedly they were to be clones, and possibly they were dumped due to that same reason.

See, this is what confuses me. I was under the impression that HAL had very little to do with this title directly, only providing characters in the same way GameFreak or Konami did; however, their logo appears on the Disc Channel for Brawl. I haven't finished Subspace yet, so I have yet to see the credits, but do HAL members appear anywhere significant? The Adventure Mode feels a lot like a Kirby game - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the level design was scrapped from that forever-in-development Kirby GCN/Wii game.
khorney
i dunno, i just remember their logo exclusively (apart from nintendo) appearing on the start screen on melee, so i guess they have quite alot todo with SSBB, but i don't own it, so i cant say for sure

Actually, yes. There was a GameCube Kirby game in the works that SSE is heavily based on. You can see the similarites in this video.
Flawful
They borrowed alot of ideas from Kirby Air Ride, I noticed that the Unlocks section works just like Kirby Air Ride's only more flash added. Sakurai must have really liked that game. City mode was the only good mode (if you had friends).

Also did anyone bother to check out any videos before the game was release. In Melee, the In game video shows a platform on Hyrule Temple that isnt in the final.
Overlord
...HAL made the first 2 Smash games, it's not a shock they'd have a large influence on the third.
K2J
Not a shock, true, but it's a bit strange considering the blog gave the impression that an entirely separate developer (Game Arts, right?) made the game. Perhaps they only made the actual fighting engine, and the Subspace Emissary was ported out to HAL?

Dixie Kong was originally supposed to be paired up with Diddy, but this was scrapped after they realized it downplayed Diddy's appearance.
